Free base-building game

Last Shelter: Survival is a massively multiplayer strategy war game in real-time. Players will take on the role of a leader in this game, leading a small village in a post-apocalyptic Earth devastated by the zombie apocalypse. The gameplay is fairly simple. A similar post-apocalyptic game is LifeAfter.

You must create your own wasteland kingdom, prepare your troops, hire generals and heroes, and join your allies in a never-ending battle in humanity's final days. In-game, it's best to begin on a relatively new server. It’s easy to get into the top servers in a few months if you do well.

A war between humans

Last Shelter: Survival is not a zombie apocalypse game, despite the fact that it is marketed as such. Zombies can be found in the game but, they set the scene for the main event, which is a battle between you and other players. This is similar to some of the more common zombie TV shows, such as The Walking Dead, in which human conflict is the central theme.

To increase your total strength, you must first expand your city and acquire more infrastructure, science, and troops. You'll need a variety of materials, including energy, water, wood, beef, steel, petrol, and in-game currency, to accomplish this (that can be purchased with real-world money). Microtransactions are used to make the game free to play. The developers did a good job at persuading players to pay, since being successful requires investment.

Resources, such as steel and money become very difficult to acquire at the higher levels of the game. Playing for free will limit your chances to win compared with those who fulfill in-app purchases. Resources getting stolen by other players is possible, too, from time to time. This also means that you can target other players and loot them, too.

Fun for base-building game fans

Overall, you can have a lot of fun in this game however, the zombies play a minor role in the game, with the bulk of the time spent collecting resources and navigating the puzzling system of in-game currencies, as well as attempting to see the playing field through the flashy, obnoxious invites to spend on upgrades.

PROS

  • Supports online multiplayer
  • Utilizes base-building mechanics

CONS

  • Speeds up progress through microtransactions
  • No interaction between zombies and players
